Ribbon hair bows are a very popular type of girls hair accessories. There are probably a bunch of images that come to mind when thinking about this type of bow. The one I like best is typically used for a cheerleader bow and looks like the one in the photo below.

Long strands of ribbon are used to make long, flowing strands that will bounce and fly around as your little girl cheers. These popular bows are super easy to make but do take a lot of ribbon to create them, if you want to have long strands. I would suggest using cheaper ribbon like from the dollar bin at Michael’s because you’ll need a few rolls and don’t want to spend a ton of money creating them.

Ribbon Hair Bows for Cheerleading

In my cheer bows course I show you how to make this ribbon bow step-by-step if you are searching for exact instructions on how to make this type of ribbon hair bow. The easy part is that you just need a bunch of grosgrain ribbons or satin ribbons and then a hair tie of your choice (if you are using for a cheerleader bow, be sure there is no metal on the elastic). Additionally you might want to use some hot glue for a secure hold and also a good pair of scissors of course to cut the fabric the correct length. You can use a variety of ribbon widths for this hairbow or you can use all the same widths, it is really up to you! Feel free to experiment with lots of varieties of ribbon and then choose which you like the best.
